Dak Lak, Vietnam Exchange Program Sees Surrender of 300+ Homemade Guns

According to the police statement on Friday, the exchange program took place in the scenic Cham Village in Ea Sol Commune, known for its picturesque mountainous landscapes.

Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Nguyen Cong Hoa, the head of the police division in Ea H’leo District, observed that Ea Sol Commune is inhabited by various ethnic minority groups who continue to engage in traditional wild animal hunting practices.

In this commune, numerous families have independently crafted hunting weapons to support their means of living. They view these weapons as essential tools for their livelihoods.

“According to Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Hoa, maintaining weapons within residential premises can pose a significant risk to the safety of both weapon owners and the general public, ultimately compromising the overall security of the community.”

In order to prioritize the safety of residents and uphold security in the province, the police department has initiated an exchange program. This program aims to incentivize locals to trade their homemade weapons for rice.

As the program commenced, residents in the district immediately expressed their eagerness to participate. Consequently, the police promptly gathered a collection of over 300 handcrafted guns, as accentuated by Hoa.

The law enforcement agency in Ea H’leo District urges residents to surrender any hazardous tools or explosives and assures them of assistance from the authorities.

Residents in Binh Minh and Binh Son Villages, located in Ea Tir Commune, willingly and eagerly surrendered their weapons to the police on Wednesday. With their commitment to refrain from storing and trading dangerous tools and homemade guns, the community took an important step towards ensuring safety and security.
